BIRD FRIENDLY COFFEE?

The Smithsonian Bird Friendly® certification is the environmental gold standard in sustainable coffee and cocoa production. Certified farms are organic, deforestation-free, and guarantee habitat protection through agroforestry or forest conservation practices.

When you purchase Bird Friendly certified coffee or cocoa, you preserve critical habitat for birds and wildlife, fight climate change, protect biodiversity, and support farmers committed to farming sustainably.

Bird Friendly research is focused on four key areas: biodiversity conservation, carbon and climate, regenerative farming practices, and markets for conservation.

The Bird Friendly extension program aims to improve awareness and adoption of Bird Friendly best management practices through collaborations with producers, local extension agents, and industry.

The Smithsonian Bird Friendly® certification is the environmental gold standard in coffee and cocoa production. Every Bird Friendly farm is organic, deforestation-free, and conserves biodiversity through agroforestry or forest conservation practices.

Bird Friendly does more than any other certification to protect habitat, ecosystems, and wildlife. It is the only certification that guarantees every coffee and cocoa bean sold is grown in a way that protects wildlife habitat. Instead of clearing forest for coffee and cocoa production, Bird Friendly crops are cultivated beneath and alongside diverse, native trees, preserving healthy ecosystems.

What distinguishes Bird Friendly® coffees from other coffees?-

Bird Friendly coffees are the world’s only shade-grown, organic coffees certified by third-party inspectors using criteria established by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center. These criteria are based on years of research and are scientifically proven to provide bird habitat second only to undisturbed forest.

Bird Friendly certified coffees also promise 100 percent product purity. Some other certifications allow a portion of non-certified product or permit product dilution, allowing as little as 30 percent of their product to meet their standards while still sporting their certification label.

How do I know if the coffee I buy is Bird Friendly®?-
